Hindus wish  the bonding between weds to be like bonding between Ram and Sita. Why is Ram-Sita relationship considered an ideal?

let us look at instances where Ram has shown commitment to Sita

  •  Ram happens to see Sita in a garden when he came to partake in the Swayamvar. He is so attracted by Sita  that he decided to marry her alone.
  • After marriage Ram declares that he won't have any more queens. The kind of commitment he shows to the marriage institution is exemplary and has become an ideal for Indians for centuries
  • Ram's trust in Sita is unwavering . He is sure of her purity even when  Sita was under captivity of Ravan. He knows that Sita has power checkmate Ravan
  • He wages a big  war against Ravan with the help vanars  to release Sita from captivity
  • Agnipareeksha is meant for public as he never had any doubt about purity of Sita
  • In Ayoydhya , when public was talking ill about character of Sita , Ram was disturbed as he knows Sita and has no doubt.
  • When Vasist tells that his personal conviction is supreme over official compulsion , he was relieved. His Royal position demands exile of Sita  where as he is convinced of Sita's intregity. He prepares himself to sacrifice his throne than to punish Sita who is pure
  • When Sita decides against Ram's  wish to relinquish throne and follow her to exile , he has decided to live  ascetic life like Sita as he doesn't deserve a better life than Sita. He remained a sanyasi king for the  rest of his life
Let us look at how Ram and Sita  lived to seven sacred vows at i.e. Sath Vachan

First Vachan from groom  about taking bride as partner to all social and Spiritual activities . During Aswamedh Yag Ram makes a golden statue of Sita and carries out the yag symbolically making Sita equal participant

Second Vachan about Groom treating Bride's parents t with love and respect. After Sita's exile,Ram visits Jankas to reassure ailing Janaka's wife Suneinah. Despite the sad exile, Janakas are happy to be with Ram as he is more like a son

Third vachan about groom taking care of bride whole life. Ram was always with Sita. Sita chose to be with Ram during Vanvas. When Ravan abducts Sita , Ram Wages a great war against Ravan to take back Sita.

Fourth Vachan is about   Groom taking care about all requirements of household. Ram was ever ready to be with Sita in her exile from Ayodhya even though Sita was against it.

Fifth Vachan is about Groom taking opinion of bride on all important issues. Even though Ram wants to exile alone , Sita insisted following him to jungle and Ram obliged it.

Sixth Vachan is respecting bride. Ram was full of respect of Sita and you can't fault him on this

Seventh Vachan is about infidility. Ram was devouted husband from the time he saw Sita in Udyan till the end. He spurned advances by Surpanaka , refused another marriage proposal for Aswamedh  yag, vowed monogomy to Sita . Ram is impeccable about this.

He is a true ideal to  follow.

  1. Many people may not know the meaning of marriage vows. Your explanation is quite helpful. I wonder how many people in the present generation do really care about these things.
